First Strokes Swim Schools: Junior Lifeguard Award 

The Junior Lifeguard Award introduces children to the basics of lifesaving, rescue techniques, personal survival, CPR and water safety awareness. It builds confidence in and around water and develops responsibility for personal safety and that of others. 

Program Structure 

The Junior Lifeguard Award is designed to teach young swimmers essential lifesaving skills in a fun and safe environment. The award is divided into three levels, with three stages at each level:

  • Bronze: Focuses on foundation lifesaving skills and building awareness of self-rescue techniques.

  • Silver: Develops intermediate lifesaving skills, including an introduction to simple rescues and CPR.

  • Gold: Covers advanced rescue techniques, emphasizing teamwork and performing full incident rescues.

Each stage encourages confidence, responsibility, and practical knowledge in and around water, preparing young swimmers to be safe, capable, and confident.

Skill Progress and Assessment 

To achieve the Junior Lifeguard Award, participants must complete all skills through a structures learning process. 

Introduction – Skill is demonstrated and explained 

Skill Development- Practiced with guidance and confidently 

Consistency & Confidence – Repeated accurately and confidently 

Logbook Requirement 

Each participant must complete a logbook of their training hours, recording progress, attendance, and skill development.
