Barracuda Level

Brilliant! You can swim with Barry Barracuda!

ASA Competitive Laws are the main objective at this level, which prepares the student for entry into a swim club. All elements of competitive swimming are taught and practised.

With practice, progression will lead to competence in the perfomance of the skills. To confirm competence the student should be able to perform the skill with consistent reliabilty, based on:- Introduction, Development, Competence and Consistence.

Barracuda - Level 46

  1. Explain the action to be taken if you see some one in difficulty at the pool.
  2. Tread water wearing shorts and a T-shirt for 1 minute, remove clothing and continue to tread water for another minute.
  3. Perform; a straddle entry, swim 10 metres to a casualty and tow to safety.
  4. Swim 200 metres front crawl using a correct start, turns and finish.
  5. Swim 50 metres butterfly using a recognised start, turns and finish.
  6. Swim 75 metres back crawl with a recognised start, turns and finish.
  7. Swim 75 metres breast stroke with a recognised start, turn and finish.
  8. Swim 850 metres using all 4 strokes with a recognised start, turns and finish.

Barracuda - Level 47

  1. Give 3 examples of illnesses where the casualty may have medication.
  2. Explain what bullying is and give examples of what the teacher can do to prevent students from being bullied.
  3. With a buoyant aid and verbal instruction rescue a weak swimmer.
  4. Swim 250 metres front crawl using a recognised start, turns and finish.
  5. Swim 75 metres butterfly using a recognised start, turns and finish.
  6. Swim 100 metres back crawl with a recognised start, turns and finish.
  7. Swim 100 metres breast stroke with a recognised start, turns and finish.
  8. Swim 900 metres using 4 strokes with a recognised start, turns and finish.

Barracude - Level 48

  1. Give 2 example of what is meant by swim within your own limits.
  2. Explain the role of the emergency services and the sequence for calling them.
  3. Swim 25 metres side stroke
  4. Swim 3 metres pushing a buoyant object, hold it above head with both hands and tread water for 30 seconds.
  5. Perform a grab start.
  6. Perform a track start.
  7. Swim 300 metres using 3 recognised stroke, turns and transitions.
  8. Swim 950 metres using all 4 strokes with a recognised start, turns and finish.

Barracuda - Level 49

Complete 1-5 adhering to the ASA competitive laws

  1. 100 metres front crawl start, turns and finish.
  2. 100 metres back crawl start, turns and finish.
  3. 100 metres breast stroke start, turns and finish.
  4. 4 x 1 length individual medley.
  5. 25 metres butterfly with an appropriate transition to 25 metres breaststroke.
  6. Tow a casualty; 25 metres in 50 seconds or less.
  7. Tread water for 3 minutes in shorts and T-shirt.
  8. Swim 1000 metres using all 4 strokes with a recognised start, turns and finish.

Barracuda - Level 50

Complete 1-4 adhering to the ASA competitive laws

  1. List 5 ASA laws of competitive swimming.
  2. Perform 2 different competitive starts.
  3. Swim 4 x 50 metre individual medley.
  4. Swim 400 metres using a recognised competitive stroke within 10 minutes. 5. Swim 25 metres to a casualty and tow a further 25 metres to safety.
  5. Swim 5 metres; front and back crawl, scull head and feet first sculling.
  6. Swim 25 metres polo crawl with a ball showing control between the arms.
  7. Swim 1000 metres using all 4 strokes with recognised start, turns and finish
